Last night the Foreign Commonwealth Office updated its website to ‘advise against all but essential travel by air to or from Sharm el-Sheikh airport’ as the government suspects there is a high threat of terrorism following investigations into the SeS – St Petersburg plane crash that are leading authorities to believe it was brought down by an explosive.
First of all, don’t just cancel your holiday without checking the cancellation clause of your travel insurance policy. You may not be covered. Instead it is essential that you contact your travel agent or tour operator to get full details about your trip and to discuss alternative arrangements. Whether this be a full refund or a change to your trip, it’s always best to see how they can help you first.
Following this, you can contact us as we will be able to help amend your policy however necessary.
If however you, a family member or a friend are in Sharm el-Sheikh the FCO have confirmed that they have deployed consular staff, who are on hand in the airport and in the resort to help all holidaymakers. The travel agent/operator will also be able to assist and reassure you.
For any advice about your policy, any of our brokers will be more than happy to assist you. Call (01624) 624594.
